Bench Bar 2010: The Beach, (Some) Sun, and Volleyball

Although challenged by weather and amid growing concerns about the oil spill in the Gulf, the 2010 Bench Bar Conference went off with only minor hitches last week. For the first time in 12 years, the outdoor “beach party” had to be converted into an indoor “pool party” due to the rain, although no one seemed to mind too much. The brave(?) volleyball players disregarded the inclement weather and went ahead with their tournament Friday afternoon; the winning team was Jeff and Elizabeth Rosenblum, Tim Johnson, and Brent McDade. John Cannon, Edd Peyton, and Patrick Montgomery won the golf tournament in a “scorecard playoff” over Todd Kaplan, Steve Leffler and George Skouteris. Amid the social and sports events, attendees were treated to excellent CLE programs on such diverse topics as social media and bankruptcy issues affecting state court practitioners.
Our thanks to Judge Lee Wilson and Cindy Pensoneau, the co-chairs of this year’s conference, and the Bench Bar Conference Committee for their hard work in putting together an excellent conference. Our thanks also to BankTennessee and IPSCO, the MBA’s title sponsors, and to Thomson Reuters, Lexis-Nexis, THEMIS, Alpha Reporting, Resolute Systems, and the Memphis Bar Foundation for being conference sponsors. We hope to see you again next year!
