Memphis Bar Association
2007 Judicial Evaluation Survey

The Memphis Bar Association today released the results of its 2007 Judicial Evaluation Survey.  The survey evaluated all federal, state and municipal judges as well as divorce and juvenile court referees and judicial commissioners.

The survey was conducted online for the first time.  Judges were rated using a 10-point scale on their performance in 12 categories assessing their court administration, knowledge of the law, and judicial temperament.  Only attorneys who had appeared within a judge’s court during the two prior years were asked to evaluate that judge. Surveys were received from 437 attorneys.

The Memphis Bar Association has conducted a survey of local judges since 1987, as part of its mission to educate the public with reference to law and the administration of justice and to improve the quality of the judicial system.  Beginning in 2001, the survey has been done bi-annually.
